So in my book, I’m writing a chapter about showing love to others, and one of my topics within the chapter is “thinking before you say”. I explain that you never know what a person may be going through and that even the most harmless little joke could hurt way more than the deliverer’s intentions.
While I was brainstorming about what to blog, I realized that I don’t know what you, my readers, are going through at this moment in time. I decided that I would dedicate today’s post to encouragement.
I would like to start with my favorite verse, Matthew 7:7
“ask and it will be given to you, seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be opened to you.”
So this verse is like, really hard to believe. Look it up if you want, I kid you not this is a real verse found in Matthew.
Another scripture that just blows me away is John 15:12-17. Okay, it’s about to get real. These verses… I could have an entire blog dedicated to them! In fact, I’m going to write down that I need to write about these in detail in the future…
“(12) My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. (13) Greater love has no one than this: To lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (14) You are my friends if you do what I command. (15) I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his masters business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I have learned from my Father I have made known to you. (16) You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give to you. (17) This is my command: Love each other.”
Wow! I would encourage you to just take a deep breath, turn right back around, and read that again. It’s a lot. This is one of my favorite scriptures. Verse twelve and Seventeen go with my topic today. Love towards others. But, for encouragement, I want to talk about the other verses for a moment. (or many moments).
Just look at verse 15. Look at it! This is Jesus talking to His disciples saying that they are his friends! He’s saying that he has taught them everything they need to know to live a life that honors and glorifies God!
Okay, not look at verse 16. This verse makes me just want to cry every time I read it. Jesus chose us, guys. He Chose us! Us! As A.W. Tozer says in his book “The Pursuit Of God”, “A man cannot pursue God until God has pursued the man.” (This is a loose quote I do not have access to the book and the only time I heard it it was being read aloud and I’m just guessing that my notes are accurate please don’t sue me). What Tozer is saying is proved here in John 15:16! God has pursued us! If God has chosen you for this walk of faith, you are here for good, no, great reasons. God has plans for your life! in fact, Ephesians 2:10 says this;
“For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God has prepared in advance for us to do.”
Boom! God’s got a plan!
For the longest time, I was convinced that I wanted to be a vet. When I was fourteen That desire became Zookeeping. Then I wanted to be a vet tech. After I got a job at a vet clinic and decided that it was definitely not for me, my plan for my life disappeared. I felt lost. I mean, I had always had a plan for myself. Yes, that plan changed a lot but I had always had a plan and here I was, not even knowing if I wanted to go to college anymore. But, after some time and two weeks at the best church camp in the world, I finally trusted God with my career. And now here I am pursuing professional writing and wedding coordinating, and I have never been happier!
But back to the point. Love one another. There is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friend.
Love is patient, love is kind.
So, as you leave this blog post just remember to think before you speak and show love to all those around you. Yes, even the strangers.
As you live through God’s plan and share his love with others remember that God will not tell you to chop down a tree or dig a well without giving you an ax or a shovel. He will provide you with the tools you need to complete the tasks.
And always remember In a world full of the same, never forget to Live Different.
